Living in the Chicago area one must own a lot of clothing to accommodate the ever changing temps. One day you might start out with boots and a coat and then end the day in a short sleeve and shorts! Those of you who live around here know exactly what I am talking about.
Knowing the vocabulary for all types of clothing comes in handy on a day to day basis, especially if you are using Spanish at home with your kids! My daughter is not yet able to dress herself so I have not endured the stage of “put your pants back on”, “you need shoes to go outside”, “its snowing out, you NEED a coat!”. But, as I am told over and over, time is passing quickly and she will be dressing herself before I know it.
To say “put on your____” in Spanish you simply say “ponte tu _____ (article of clothing)”.
Exapmle: “Ponte tu abrigo” — “Put on your coat”
Parents, you will get a lot of practice with these words, I’m sure!
